DHL through its Airport Emergency Team (AET)6 mobilized the resources and provided logistical support, warehouse, and distribution services in order to ensure that the relief supplies received from across the world, reached the tsunami affected areas.

DHL's personnel, who were experts in logistics and related fields, functioned from Colombo airport in Sri Lanka and Banda Aceh provincial airport in Indonesia. As a part of the rehabilitation efforts, DHL donated money towards the construction of houses, schools, and other infrastructural requirements in several affected countries including India, Maldives, Sri Lanka, and Thailand.

Subsequently, DHL was involved in relief measures relating to Hurricane Katrina7 and the earthquake in South Asia in October 2005.

With the expertise it had gained in collaborating with humanitarian agencies to deliver relief aid during the tsunami, DHL entered into partnership with United Nations Development Program (UNDP)8 and Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)9 to form Disaster Response Teams (DRT) in December 2005. At the end of 2007, three DRTs were functioning, with the capacity to handle emergency situations in Asia, Africa and America. According to Puji Pujiono, Regional Disaster Response Advisor for Asia, OCHA, "This cooperation underlines the important role that companies can play in complementing the UN's programs to benefit more people across the world."10...

6] AET was a part of the Disaster Resource Network (DRN), a network of companies initiated by World Economic Forum in 2001. Seven companies which participated in DRN are Aramex, Chapman Freeborn, DHL, DNATA, Dubai Aid City, Emirates and TNT. According to DRN, it acted as a bridge between businesses in the engineering-construction industry, humanitarian response organizations and government agencies to improve international disaster response and preparedness operations in vulnerable regions of the world.
